  Q. Where do I go for a Dog or Cat license? What information do I need for license?

A. Dog and cat licenses are issued at the City of Hastings Police Department at 317 South Burlington. You will need to bring your Certificate of Rabies vaccination issued by the veterinarian with you to obtain the license. Please contact the the Hastings Police Department at 461-2380 for current licensing fees.

  Q. Who can give me information on water, sewer or street paving assessments?

A. City Treasurer Barb Adler at 461-2310.

  Q. What are the hours of the landfill?

A. 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturdays.

  Q. Where is the Wood Waste Facility and what are the hours? What is the fee for disposal of tree limbs and
        wood waste? How much are the wood chips?

A. The Wood Waste Facility is located at the City of Hastings Landfill. The hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 pm., Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturdays.
The disposal fee for tree limbs and wood waste is $35.50 per ton (minimum $7.50 up to 420 lbs.). Premium wood chips can be purchased for $5.00 per cubic yard; standard wood chips are $2.00 per cubic yard.

  Q. Where do I go for a building permit?

A. Development Services Department, 1st Floor, City Hall.

  Q. Who is responsible for terrace trees?

A. The property owner is responsible for normal pruning and care of trees. The Parks Department will take care of any terrace tree that is dead or is diseased. If the trees are touching electrical wires, Hastings Utilities must be called to cut limbs away from wires.

  Q. Where do I get a handicap permit and what is required to obtain one?

A. Handicap parking applications are available in the City Treasurer's Office on the first floor of City Hall.  For more information, contact the City Treasurer's office at 461-2310.

  Q. Where can I obtain a food handler's permit?

A. Contact the State Department of Agriculture for information at (402) 471-2536.

  Q. Where do I go to get a marriage license?

A. Adams County Clerk's Office, Adams County Courthouse, 461-7107.

  Q. On what days is it legal to burn within the City limits?

A. Burning is allowed on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Saturdays from Noon to 7:00 p.m. A written burning permit from the Fire Department is required. For more information, contact the Fire Department at 461-2350.

  Q. Where do I go to get a driver's license?

  Q. Where do I go to get my car titled?

A. Adams County Treasurer - Adams County Courthouse, 461-7120.

  Q. How do I contact Social Services?

A. Adams County Office Building, 300 N St. Joseph Avenue, 461-1800.

  Q. Where and how can I obtain a passport?

A. Any travel agency has the applications for passports. You will need a photograph. A certified birth certificate is required. If you do not have a certified birth certificate, contact the Bureau of Vital Statistics, 301 Centennial Mall South, Lincoln, NE. Phone 402-471-2871. Take the birth certificate, passport picture and application to the Clerk of the District Court, Adams County Courthouse for a signature. Then mail to address on passport application.

  Q. What is the amount of sales tax in Hastings?

A.  The State is 5.5% plus the City's 1.5% for a total of 7% sales tax.
