City of Hastings - Mayor

Welcome to Hastings! An exciting City with an exceptional quality of life for all who live, work and visit this community.

Matt Rossen has been Mayor since January 2005, born March 13, 1966 the Rossen Family has lived in Hastings for 19 years. As mayor his priorities are economic development, getting youth involved, retaining youth, growing the community and enhancing the quality of life to all residents in Hastings.

During Mayor Rossen's tenure, Hastings has also enjoyed some unprecedented economic expansion, retail sales and development are at an all time high, sales tax revenue from the growing retail sector are at a all time high and new construction from residential housing developments continue being strong.

His efforts to create the mayors youth council that represent 17 Junior and Senior high school students has been very productive and positive for these youth .They represent 3 of our local schools and are working together to provide the leaders of this community information that will help enhance the quality of life for our youth and to retain these students after college.

Mayor Rossen is very active throughout the community, attending many events throughout the week; he serves as a board member to the Community Redevelopment Authority, Hastings Economic Development Corporation and an Elk’s Club member.

Prior to being sworn in as Mayor, Rossen served as City Council President for 2 years, 2 years on the City council, 2 years as an ambassador for the City through the Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce, Liaison to the Chamber, Little Blue Resources District, Pioneer Trail Hike and Bike Trail Committee Chair, Aquatic Park Committee.

Mayor Rossen and his wife Shelli have lived at 1419 Pershing Road for 14 years  They are parents of 2 boys, Derek, a Freshman at Central Community College and Jake, who is in middle school.  The Rossens are members of Faith Lutheran Church.
