SUMMARY
The Firefighter - Paramedic is a dual role position having emergency medical care responsibilities in addition to firefighter duties. Depending on the nature of the emergency, the Firefighter - Paramedic will suppress fires, perform rescues and extrication, provide basic and advanced life support medical intervention, and other hazard control activities. Work is often carried out under stressful conditions in the presence of physical, environmental, contagious disease, and chemical hazards.
qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent at time of application.
- By date of hire, must be 18 years of age or older.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
- By date of hire, must possess and maintain State of Nebraska EMT-Paramedic license throughout duration of employment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- By date of hire must possess and maintain State of Nebraska EMT – Paramedic license throughout duration of employment.
- Valid Nebraska driver’s license along with ability to be insured by the city’s insurance carrier to drive city vehicles.
- Firefighter I and Firefighter II (IFSAC or ProBoard certified) must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
- NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
If offered a conditional offer of employment, the following items must be completed: a thorough background investigation, drug screen, medical examination, physical assessment, psychological examination, fingerprinting, and sign an employment commitment agreement.

HOURS
The Hastings Fire and Rescue Department operates with three shifts. Each shift is on duty for 24 hours, and off for 48 hours. Employees are required to work holidays and weekends. Wages are based on 54 hours per week.
