This is a full-time, FLSA exempt (salaried) position.
Hours include day and some evening and weekend hours.
It may also include special events, meetings, seminars, etc.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Hastings Public Library is seeking two innovative and enthusiastic Librarians to interact with people of all ages.  At Hastings Public Library, we believe interaction is the key to successful community outreach and that people of all ages learn through play.

In this position, we will look to the successful candidates to find learning opportunities that create magical, transformative experiences for babies, children, teens and adults.  The successful candidates should demonstrate creativity, organizational skills, leadership, flexibility, and the ability to work well with others.  As an integral part of the Library’s management team, the Librarians are expected to communicate openly and honestly and to be team players, working in cooperation with all department divisions as well as assisting and developing staff in the performance of their duties

ABOUT YOU

  • You develop and implement outstanding programs, presentations, and workshops creating amazing encounters for people of all ages leaving the user thrilled about the library.
  • You are an outgoing tour guide of our recently renovated library sharing your knowledge about the library operations while entertaining the group.
  • You are a wizard at teaching our patrons and staff how to use technology from our online databases to e-readers.
  • You are an explorer.  You are out on the floor with the library customers helping them with their journey through our amazing library.
  • You are the reference point person in the library.
  • You are the go-to person to find out what is hot in the collection.  You always know what is popular and you share your passion about our print and online products.
  • You know your way around technology, having the ability to teach new users about basic computer skills to more techie things utilizing the new equipment in our maker space.
  • You are a leader, happily taking on lead responsibilities, including person in charge, trainer of staff on operating procedures, and lead over other staff.
  • You reach out to the community, presenting workshops for the local community.
  • You do the right thing!  Every decision you make and action you take is an opportunity to demonstrate our collective integrity.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Master of Library Science or related field
  • Minimum of two years of increasingly responsible experience. (Some public library experience is preferred.)
  • Nebraska Public Librarian Certification must be obtained and maintained.
  • Spanish speaking candidates are welcome.
