SUMMARY

Manages, directs and coordinates the maintenance of parks and recreational facilities including supervision of the landscaping of parks, grounds, athletic fields, forestry, aquatic facilities, recreation structures and open spaces; coordinates parks maintenance activities with other divisions, departments, outside agencies and the general public.

qualifications

Any combination of experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school plus five years of experience in parks and/or grounds, facility maintenance, including three years as a supervisor. A degree in turf management, horticulture, or a related field is desirable but not required.

Special Requirements

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license with CDL endorsement (CDL must be obtained within one year of employment).
  • Must obtain and maintain herbicide/pesticide applicator’s license (categories 00, 04, 09, 14) within one year of employment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

  • Considerable knowledge of turf grass management, horticulture, irrigation systems, and forestry.
  • Considerable knowledge of materials, methods, practices and equipment used in park and related recreational facilities maintenance and construction.
  • Ability to select, supervise, train and evaluate staff.
  • Ability to manage, direct and coordinate the work of supervisory and maintenance personnel.
  • Ability to estimate the time, manpower, equipment and materials required to perform parks maintenance assignments.
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

HOURS

40 hours per week.
Typical hours are Monday thru Friday, day hours with occasional evening and weekend hours. Requires being on call on a rotation basis. 

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

Must reside within 30 minutes from duty station, per Google Maps.
