summary

The Hastings Police Department is recruiting applicants to fill current and future police officer vacancies.  The entry level exam will be conducted by appointment only.  The eligibility list created will be used to hire from immediately and will remain active for one year unless it is exhausted prior to that date.  If not already commissioned, we will send the successful candidate to the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center to obtain certification.  

Police Officers patrol assigned area to enforce laws and ordinances, respond to calls, enforce laws, make arrests, issue citations, regulate traffic, control crowds, prevent crimes, and occasionally testify in court cases.  Officers may also be assigned to conduct investigations to prevent crimes or solve criminal cases, and be required to perform a variety of administrative and technical duties in support of the department.

qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience

  • No experience is required.  However, patrol experience is required for an assignment to detective.

 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be 21 years old at the time of graduation from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center.
  • Maintain a valid Nebraska Driver's License.
  • Maintain annual firearms qualification.
  • Maintain certification from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center.  Successful candidate must obtain required certification within one (1) year from date of appointment.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

Will be required to reside within thirty (30) miles of the Hastings Police Station.

HOURS

  • 80 hours every two weeks
  • Shift work and subject to on-call duty after hours during potential and actual emergency or disaster situations.

TEST INFORMATION

Successful applicants must pass the following assessments: Behavioral Personnel Assessment Device or B-Pad, Oral Review Board, Entrance Physical Standard test, and Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).

Post job offer screening assessments include background investigation, drug screen, polygraph examination, medical examination and medical assessment, psychological examination, and fingerprinting.  Information on each individual item can be found in the application instructions.
