SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Street Superintendent and Street Foreman, supervises a work crew and performs a variety of skilled and unskilled work in the maintenance, repair and construction of City streets, sidewalks, buildings, storm sewers and other municipal facilities. 

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Directs and assists work crews in patching and making concrete repairs of streets and sidewalks, asphalt repair, digging ditches, pot holes, hoisting material and tools and supplies, maintaining gravel alleys, marks, cuts and repairs ditches and shoulders, cleaning streets and storm sewers, performing snow and debris removal functions including sanding and salting streets, and mowing of right-of-ways.
  • Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, gravel and sand; operates equipment to perform maintenance, repair and construction activities; performs a variety of routine repair and maintenance tasks on equipment and tools.
  • Operational duties including assists with the planning and prioritizing of daily work, discusses problems encountered or anticipated with crew to determine procedures to resolve problems, makes project material estimates required for daily work and assembles supplies, and ensures work crew meets all standards, regulations and codes.

qualifications

Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to graduation from high school plus three years of experience in public works, the maintenance and construction of streets and operation of medium to heavy equipment.

special requirements

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a manual and automatic Class B CDL with air brakes.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain a herbicide applicator’s license.
  • May be required to obtain flagger certification.

HOURS

40 hours per week
Normally Monday thru Friday, day hours.  Position is subject to on-call status and may respond during emergencies or widespread outages.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

No.  But must be able to adequately respond to emergency recalls and responses during on-call time.
