Description of Work
Assists in managing the daily operations of the Visitor Services Department, overseeing the activities of the Museum Experience Associates, and actively promote a positive visitor experience throughout their stay. This includes greeting guests, understanding, promoting, and answering questions about all the Museum offers; selling tickets, memberships, and merchandise; and ensuring they are entering a clean, safe, welcoming, and well-kept environment. In addition, gathers, researches, organizes, maintains, and disseminates information for other departments not related to the permanent collections.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three years of customer service and money handling experience, working with ticketing systems a plus.
- Experience working in databases.
- Previous management/lead experience preferred.
- Bi-lingual (Spanish) is preferred.
Essential functions of the job
- Assists the Visitor Services Director in managing guest experience by overseeing all functions of the Visitor Services Division to ensure that conduct, performance, and service conforms to Museum standards and expectation. Makes appropriate adjustments to correct deficiencies in performance of the department or overall guest experience. This includes monitoring shift schedules and ensuring appropriate levels of staffing are available as needed. Participates in the development of goals, priorities, and functions of the department.
- Welcome and engage with Museum visitors and guide them to accessing the building to get the most out of their visit. Effectively share accurate information on the Museum’s mission, history, collections, and exhibits. Actively promote events, programs, shows, and memberships. Respond appropriately to visitor questions, comments, and concerns. Negotiates customer complaints to a satisfactory conclusion.
- Assists with opening and closing procedures including counting and verifying sales and cash receipts; ensuring there is sufficient coinage in the safe for the next day of business; completing appropriate reports and records; and preparing deposit bags and taking them to the City Finance Office.
- Ensure Lied Theatre system is ready and operating correctly before each show including verifying show schedules and start times are accurate and updated to prevent lost shows or revenue.
- Follow and enforce Hastings Museum’s policies and procedures to ensure the safety of Museum collections, property, and visitors. Ensure security using observation and surveillance systems. Report potential incidences of vandalism or theft through appropriate channels.
- Acts as an information coordinator by assisting in researching, gathering, and disseminating information to other staff and the public. This includes digitizing, organizing, and maintaining files and finding aids for information produced about, for, or by the Museum such as images, newspaper articles, advertising material, and Museum newsletters; with guidance of the marketing department, researching, developing, and posting original content for social media platforms; and monitoring and evaluating cinematic releases for potential showings in the Theatre.

HOURS
40 hours per week, including two weekends per month, some evenings and holidays.
