summary

Performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of museum exhibits, buildings, grounds, open spaces, and recreation structures.  Exercises independent judgment in decision making and prioritizes work.

 Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from high school plus three years of experience in building technology, mechanics, maintenance management or a closely related field.

Special Requirements

Possession of a valid driver’s license.

 Essential Functions of the Job

  • Building Maintenance—Plans, carries out and evaluates janitorial and preventative maintenance schedules for City facilities and equipment; cleans and maintains facilities.  Performs preventative maintenance on heating and cooling systems and sprinkler systems; performs minor plumbing and electrical work; paints walls, ceilings and window trim; sands and refinishes wood; mows, edges and maintains lawns.  Evaluates facility condition for damage; evaluates status of equipment and facilities, and schedules needed repairs or replacement.  Maintains tools and equipment.
  • Customer Service—Meets with users of facilities to determine their needs; supervises and participates in readying the facility for use; provides sound and lighting support for various events.  Responds to public inquiries; provides information within scope of knowledge and position. Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed.
  • Administrative—Assists in the planning and coordination of building or capital improvement projects.  Enforces policies, regulations, safety and health standards and rental policies of City facilities.   Inspects services provided by contractors or vendors for compliance with performance standards.  Assists in projecting needs for equipment, materials and supplies; assists in the preparation of specifications, estimates, and bids for machinery, equipment, and contractor services.  Maintains a variety of records and logs.
