Bring your creations to life in a space where everyone can be a maker!

What is a Makerspace?

Makerspaces encourage curiosity and creativity while providing a space where people can connect with their ideas and each other. Users of a makerspace can learn about technology they may not otherwise have access to, enabling them to use their new skills to make art, gifts, crafts, and more and to explore and experiment with their interests, imaginations, and creativity.

What is available in the Hastings Public Library Makerspace?

There are 13 machines available for use, ranging from 3D printers to button makers.  Visit the following pages for more detailed information and specific age requirements regarding available equipment:  Heat Press | Laser Cutter | 3D Printer | More Tools

The HPL Makerspace is located on the lower level of the library and is open during library hours: Monday-Thursday: 9am - 7pm and Friday-Saturday: 9am - 5pm. The Makerspace offers a large open space including computers with internet access and design software, tools, materials, and large tables and seating where users can design and create projects. There is also a designated play area where children can play with large blocks, puzzles, and other toys while the adult accompanying them works on their project.

Additionally, the Lower Level Multi-Use Room (LLMUR), a semi-private meeting room that seats approximately 15 to 18 people, is available for use. The LLMUR can be reserved in advance online by way of the Library Calendar or you may call the library at (402) 461-2346 to reserve a time.  Please refer to our Library Policies for terms of use and more information about reserving study and meeting rooms.

How do I use and reserve the equipment in the Makerspace?

Certification: To use the heat press, laser cutter, or 3D printers you will need to schedule and complete certification training with library staff.  Certification takes approximately 1 hour per machine and may be scheduled in advance by calling the library at (402) 461-2346 or by scheduling an appointment online using our Library Calendar. We encourage reservations to be made 24 hours in advance.

Reservations: Makerspace equipment is available by reservation or on a first-come, first-served basis. To guarantee access to a machine, please check the calendar for availability and make a reservation online via our Library Calendar or call the library (402) 461-2346 to reserve a time. Reservations made 24 hours in advance are encouraged to secure the machine you want to use.
