Safety in cooler weather

With cooler weather approaching we once again will be trying to do things to keep warm. Things like running space heaters, stoves and of course warming our vehicles before drive to work. Please keep in mind the following safety tips as the colder weather approaches.

  1. If using space heaters keep items that will burn at least 3 feet away from heater.
  2. Have your chimneys and vents checked and cleaned to prevent fire and/or CO poisoning.
  3. Always have working smoke and CO detectors in your home.
  4. If you are starting your vehicle to warm it up, do not leave it in the garage. If your garage is attached to the home CO can come into the living areas. Opening your garage door does not allow enough ventilation to prevent this from happening. If your garage is not attached leaving your car inside could allow CO to enter the vehicle and you would be exposed while driving.

These are just a few reminders to help keep you safe and warm during the upcoming season. More tips will follow in the upcoming months. Watch for holiday tips soon.
