Digital outdoor scavenger hunt teaches local history

The Hastings Museum is pairing history and exploration with an outdoor scavenger hunt set for Sept. 20.

Participants can meet at the museum at 2 p.m. at 1330 N. Burlington Ave. to start the scavenger hunt, where they’ll be given clues to solve riddles about local history and nature. The event will take place across three city parks including Brickyard Yard, Chautauqua Park and Heartwell Park.

Groups and individuals are encouraged to participate.

There is no cost and an RSVP is not required, but freewill donations to the museum are appreciated.

A data-capable device such as a smartphone or tablet is required. Participants will need to download the free GooseChase app in order to receive clues for the scavenger hunt. A mode of transportation is also required to reach each park.

Questions can be directed to the Hastings Museum at 402-461-2399.

The event is part of the museum’s efforts to provide outdoor programming in lieu of the indoor tours, classes and programs that are currently on hold.
