National Library Card Sign-Up campaign

The Hastings Public Library is celebrating National Library Card Sign-up Month in September with a month-long campaign and prize drawings.

The theme for this year’s campaign is inspired by the book The World Needs More Purple People by Kristen Bell and Benjamin Hart. The book emphasizes that a “purple person” asks great questions, laughs a lot, uses their voice all the time, is a really hard worker, and practices authenticity—or “being yourself”.

During this campaign, special “Be a Purple Person” library cards will be available for patrons who sign up for a new card.

Additional campaign activities:

  • Every teen or adult who signs up for a card will receive a welcome kit and be entered to win a prize each week.
  • All patrons 12 and under who sign up for a library card will receive a Hastings Public Library book tote bag and can have their picture taken on the library red carpet and posted on social media throughout September!
  • Library patrons who already have a library card are eligible for prize drawings, by bringing in a friend or family member to sign up for a new a library card! Card renewals or updates will also be registered to win!

Patrons under 18 must have their parent/guardian sign them up. Be sure to bring your photo id with your current address or a piece of mail.

Having a library card is your passport to a world of opportunities! The Hastings Public Library is the home to thousands of printed and digital materials, genealogical research databases, story times, classes, events, music, movies, author talks, quiet study space, and makerspace called the PIXLab. There is truly something for anyone!
