Electric distribution crew responds to big outage

A Hastings Utilities electric distribution crew responded to an outage on the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 31 that left customers in a big area of east Hastings without power.

The outage began around 5:30 a.m., after a vehicle struck a utility pole on U.S. Highway 6 in east Hastings. The collision tripped a feeder, which turned power off for the safety of the nearby lines.

More than 800 customers lost power during this time.

By modifying the distribution configuration, half the affected area’s power was restored at 7:40 a.m. Power was restored to all customers by 8:30 a.m.

Although power was restored to all customers by 8:30 a.m., work continues to repair the damage.

The outage affected an area along Second and Third streets from Minnesota Avenue to Showboat Boulevard, but stretched just south of U.S. Highway 6 and north to 12th Street.

Outages can be reported, and viewed, on the City of Hastings outage reporting page at  www.cityofhastings.org/huoutages.
