Interior demolition begins at City Hall building

O’Neill Transportation & Equipment of Grand Island began interior demolition of the City Hall building at 220 N. Hastings Ave., on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Interior demolition is needed to prepare the building for renovation. The scope of work includes removing some interior walls and ceilings as well as inefficient or out-of-date equipment and infrastructure that will be replaced as part of the renovation project.

The interior demolition work is scheduled to be completed by Oct. 1.

The City of Hastings is requesting the public not to park near, and stay clear of the areas directly around the building, especially the parking spots south of the building and on the east side to help contractors during this demolition phase. The parking lot will be closed once renovation begins.

Bidding for the renovation project is currently open. Sealed proposals will be open on Aug. 20 and go before the Hastings City Council for approval during the regular council meeting on Aug. 26.

If the renovation contract is approved at the Aug. 26 meeting, construction would begin in the fall.
