Special council meeting to be Sept. 16 for budget vote

A special meeting of the Hastings City Council will take place Monday, Sept. 16 for a second, and possibly final, reading of the 2024-2025 fiscal year budget.

The meeting will take place 5:30 p.m., at the Hastings Municipal Airport, 3300 W. 12th St., which is the normal time and location for City Council meetings.

The third Monday of the month is normally when Council work sessions occur, but there will not be a work session in September.

The only item on the special meeting agenda states “Ordinance No. 4771 adopting the Annual Appropriation Bill for the City of Hastings and adopting appropriate sums for the necessary expenses and liability for the fiscal year 2024-2025 (Second and possible Final Reading).”

Adoption of the fiscal year budget is an ordinance; and as such three readings are required for approval.

All three readings must be passed by the Hastings City Council before Sept. 30, which is the deadline for the City of Hastings to file the budget with Adams County and the Nebraska State Auditor.

Hastings City Council members voted 8-0 during their regular meeting on Sept. 9 to approve the first reading of the budget.

The second regular meeting of the month, on Sept. 23, is also available for readings of the budget if needed.
