Duncan Field

601 East South St
History

Built in 1940 as a public works project, Duncan Field is one of Nebraska's best-loved sports venues known for its deep outfield surrounded by a red brick wall.

It was the site of the American Legion's "Little World Series" three times, and Hall of Famer Yogi Berra played baseball here in his youth. Originally known as Pershing Field, it was re-named Duncan Field in honor of Donald D. Duncan, Sr.

Named in honor of Duncan shortly after his death in 1948, Duncan is credited with bringing Little League baseball to Hastings. Concerned that the youth of Hastings lacked significant opportunities and outlets for their energy in that day, Duncan organized the effort. He recruited the youth, organized the teams and in some instances even paid for player uniforms out of his own pocket.

Duncan used organized baseball to teach what he felt were the invaluable lessons of work ethic, team effort and leadership to help build the character of an entire generation of Hastings youth.

Today it is home to Hastings College Bronco Baseball, American Legion Youth Baseball, Hastings Sodbusters and St. Cecilia Football. This landmark facility serves the community as a tourist site and hosts over 100 events each year.

In 2010, the voters passed a ½ cent sales tax that is projected to assist in the funding of a $2.8 million dollar renovation project. This aging facility had not received any major renovation for over 40 years and was in dire need of structural updates.

Renovation completed June 2014.
