721 N. Briggs once again wins Halloween Light Fight contest

Grant and Tammi Jacobsen scored a touchdown with the Halloween display at their house.

The Jacobsens received the most votes among competitors in this year’s Hastings Parks and Recreation Department’s Halloween Light Fight contest with the football-themed “Freak Bowl” display at their house, 721 N. Briggs Ave.

Voting took place Oct. 18-22 on the Hastings Parks and Recreation Department’s Facebook page.

The Jacobsens are no strangers to winning the Hastings Parks and Recreation Department’s Halloween Light Fight, having also won in 2020 and 2021.

Grant said while he is competitive and likes to win, he also likes to draw attention to his work.

“I want this to be the house that the kids go ‘Hey Mom, Hey Dad, let’s go there,’ ” he said.

Tammi coordinated with Hastings Midget Football to borrow jerseys and helmets for the display.

Other homes participating in the contest included a video game-themed display at 926 N. Washington Ave.; and a pirate-themed display at 6115 Meander Circle.

As winners, the Jacobsens received a trophy made by Hastings Parks and Recreation Department staff, and prizes donated by the Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce, Pizza Hut, Golden Ticket Cinemas and Runza.
