Snow emergency routes to see additional work, followed by residential

As a reminder, the City of Hastings declared a snow emergency that is in effect until noon, Wednesday Feb. 19.

Having already cleared the snow emergency routes once, the City of Hastings Street Department anticipates clearing snow emergency routes at least one more time, and probably a second time, before snow removal efforts turn to residential streets.

The timing of snow removal efforts is contingent on snowfall. Snow removal on residential streets will begin once work on snow emergency routes is complete and snow is no longer falling.

No parking is allowed along snow emergency routes while a snow emergency is in effect to give snowplows room to work. Vehicles in violation of the snow emergency are subject to being ticketed or towed. The snow emergency routes include the downtown area.

Snow routes are marked with signs along the street, and a full list can be found on the City of Hastings snow removal page at www.cityofhastings.org/departments/street-department/maintenance/snow-removal.

According to City Code section 25-211, which was updated in 2019, snow must be cleared from sidewalks within 24 hours after the snow ends. When a snow emergency has been declared, snow must be removed within 24 hours after the end of the snow of the emergency.
