HPL focuses on 302 Project for new greenspace for Give Hastings Day
This Give Hastings Day, May 1, the Hastings Public Library invites the community to rally behind a transformational initiative: The 302 Project. This exciting campaign will turn the former gas station site adjacent to the library into a vibrant green space, bringing new life to our downtown area and creating a welcoming, accessible, and environmentally-conscious hub for all.
The 302 Project is more than a beautification effort—it's a commitment to community connection, inclusivity, and outdoor engagement. Plans for the space include:
- A decorative walking path
- Native Nebraska plants and flowers
- Comfortable seating areas
- Story walks, art exhibits, and community events
- Enhanced accessibility with flush curbs, additional handicap parking, and direct sidewalk access to the library
- Traffic-calming features and improved lighting for pedestrian safety
“By supporting the 302 Project, we are not only revitalizing a neglected space but also creating a lasting asset for our community—a place where people of all ages can gather, learn, and enjoy the outdoors,” said Ross Struss, Library Advisory Board member and liaison to the Hastings Library Foundation. “I wholeheartedly support this initiative and encourage others to do the same.”
Whether it’s families enjoying a story walk, artists showcasing their work, or neighbors gathering for an event, the 302 Project will become a lasting asset for generations to come. HPL has a goal of $15,000 to support the project. Make your gift count this Give Hastings Day and be part of a movement to build a greener, more connected Hastings.
