Summer Reading to wrap up with Color Blast party

After a summer filled with stories, smiles, and splashes of color, the Hastings Public Library is capping off its 2025 Summer Reading Program with a celebration that’s as bright as our readers! Join us for the Summer Reading Color Blast Wrap-Up Party on Friday, August 2 from 10 a.m. to noon at Lake Hastings—a morning of colorful fun for the whole family. This is our first ever wrap-up party for the Summer Reading program.

This free community event will feature a color run/walk, outdoor games, and plenty of park-time play. The grand prize drawings for Summer Reading participants will be held at 11:45 a.m., so be sure to stick around—you might just be one of our lucky winners!

This year’s theme, Color Our World, truly came to life this summer. As of July 18, our community has reached record stats with 857 readers, more than 10,000 books devoured, and a whopping 282,029 minutes read—surpassing our 280,000-minute goal! Nearly 2,000 attendees joined us for programs all summer long, from Kool-Aid fun to raptors in the building and giant bubbles at the City Auditorium. It's been a season to remember!

Key Dates to Remember:

  • July 31: Summer Reading ends. This is the last day to log your reading.
  • Aug. 2: Wrap-Up Party & Grand Prize Drawing at Lake Hastings, 10 a.m. to noon.
  • Aug. 9: Last day to pick up summer reading prizes.

Whether they read one book or 100, every reader helped Color Our World with imagination, curiosity, and joy, and HPL is excited finish the summer with a colorful blast of celebration.
