City of Hastings pursues Certified Local Government status
The City of Hastings is pursuing Certified Local Government status. This process will kick off with a series of open houses targeted toward gathering feedback on neighborhood character and educating the public about the Certified Local Government Program. The meetings will be led by City of Hastings Development Services staff with a presentation about the CLG program and neighborhood character. There will be multiple opportunities during the meetings for feedback. The open houses will be held on the following days and times:
- Nov. 19, 2025, 5-7 p.m. at the Schnase 1906 Building Downtown, 620 W. Second St.
- Nov. 20, 2025, 5-7 p.m. at Hawthorne Elementary School, 2200 W. Ninth St.
- Nov. 21, 2025, 5-7 p.m. at the Barrett Alumni Center on the Hastings College Campus, 1001 N. Sixth Ave.
- Nov. 25, 2025, 5-7 p.m. at Fire Station 2 (South Fire Station), 1145 S. Hastings Ave.
The Certified Local Government program is a partnership between local governments, the Nebraska State Historical Society and the National Park Service. By becoming a CLG, the city gains the ability to access resources and programs through the Nebraska State Historic Preservation Office and the National Park Service.
For more information, visit the EngageHastings page about Historic Preservation (here). This page contains information about the current National Register listed properties and districts as well as information about becoming a Certified Local Government. Starting on Nov. 17, a survey will be available on this page asking about characteristics people would like to see in their neighborhoods. The survey will also be available on the EngageHastings project page. This survey will be available through Dec. 31 and takes about 10 minutes to complete.
