Warm up your winter with the 2025-2026 Winter Reading Program

The annual Winter Reading Program returns to Hastings Public Library for the 2025-2026 winter season. Winter Reading is a reading challenge offered for four-weeks and four-days. It is a fun incentive that offers chances to win awesome prizes to keep everyone reading through the holidays.

The program is divided by age group: Ages 4 and younger; 5 to 12; 13 to 17; and 18 and older. Each group has a reading goal that will earn them tickets to be entered into grand prize drawings. Four grand prizes choices will be available for each age group. There is also a bonus badge that can be earned for an extra ticket in the grand prize drawings.

Winter Reading will kick-off with a special Sesame Street Storytime, Mon. Dec. 15 at 5:30pm, designed for ages 3 to 5. The storytime blends storytelling, songs, movement, and creativity in a fun program featuring beloved Sesame Street characters that helps caregivers explore healthy digital habits with children at an early age. On Dec 30 at 4:30pm, there will be an escape room program for ages 8 to 12; and on Jan 3 from 3pm-5pm, ages 13 to 18 can join the The Great Oz Cookie Challenge.

Registration for Winter Reading opens Dec. 15 and ends Jan 15. Grand prize winners will be drawn Jan 17. Registration can be completed online, through the Beanstack app, or in person at the second floor Children’s Desk.
