Asphalt resurfacing continues in Hastings
Werner Construction Co. of Hastings continues asphalt resurfacing projects in Hastings.
Werner crews hope to start the milling and resurfacing on Lincoln Avenue north of South Street to the new concrete that was placed south of the BNSF tracks on Thursday afternoon, May 14, 2026 or Friday morning, May 15, 2026.
That resurfacing project is 200 feet, compared to 3,700 feet in the Westbrook subdivision, where crews began Monday morning and are expected to wrap up Thursday morning.
The resurfacing on Lincoln Avenue will place the total 2 ½ inch thickness of asphalt in one layer, compared to two layers in Westbrook.
Other Hastings streets to be addressed include the following:
- Chicago Avenue between E Street and F Street
- St. Joseph between 7th Street and 3rd Street
- Second Street from Eastside Boulevard to Elm Avenue.
- Elm Avenue from north of the BNSF railroad tracks to north of Second Street
Werner will work with the City of Hastings to inform residents about when work is scheduled to begin in their area, but crews should move quickly between sites.
Werner completed the initial milling and patching on the streets in Westbrook on Monday. Crews moved equipment to the project, started around 9:30 a.m., and finished the milling operation Monday night with some asphalt patching.
Crews then started resurfacing after 8:30 a.m., Tuesday and finished the bottom 1 inch layer on the Westbrook resurfacing around 9:30 p.m.
Crews had an early start on Wednesday, May 13 with the first load of asphalt arriving before 7 a.m. They plan to finish the top 1 ½ inch surface layer Thursday morning.
The work is funded by the half cent sales that was passed by voters in August of 2017; started on April 1, 2018; and sunsets on March 31, 2028. Currently, 65 percent of the half cent sales tax collection goes to street repairs.
