Take the City of Hastings backflow survey

The Hastings Utility Department water department needs your help.

The City of Hastings is required by state and federal law to identify and evaluate backflow risks at each point of water service on a five-year rolling basis.

The Hastings Utility Department water department is asking the public to fill out a short survey to identify backflow risks in your home or business.

Once we have received your survey information (including your name, address, phone number and date of completion), we will keep that information on file for five years.

The survey has periodically been included with Hastings Utilities customers’ monthly bills as well as promoted on social media. The survey will next be sent with upcoming bills to customers who have not completed the survey in the last five years.

A backflow can occur when a substance flows back into the public water system as water pressure fluctuates due to a water line break or hydrant usage.

Possible backflow sources include boilers, underground sprinkler systems, garden hose faucets, and swimming pools or hot tubs.

Backflow prevention devices prohibit dangerous contaminants from being drawn into the water system by restricting the flow of water to only one direction.

The survey can be complete in English here and Spanish here.
