Borrow and enjoy audiobooks, eBooks, comics, movies, TV, magazines, or music everywhere you have a screen-your computer, your phone, your car, even your TV. All you need is a library card. Here's how!


THE 1-2-3 OF HOOPLA


1. Download the free Hoopla app from your app store and sign up in the app. To use Hoopla on a computer, go to www.hoopladigital.com and select Get Started Today.

2. Create your Hoopla account by completing the form. Choose your library, Hastings Public Library, from the populated list or search by zip code. Then select Next.

3. Add your library card number and password on the next page and select Sign Me Up.

That's it! Once your library card has been successfully connected, you'll be shown how your account works!


THE DETAILS OF HOOPLA

  • All Hoopla titles are available immediately with no holds and no waiting.
  • Titles will return automatically with no late or lost fees.
  • Each cardholder can borrow 10 items a month. Borrow limits reset on the first of each month.
  • Most movies & TV episodes are available for 3 days; most music is available for 7 days; and most audiobooks, comics, and eBooks are available for 21 days.
  • Items can be renewed. Renewing an item will count as one of your monthly borrows.
  • You can return an item early by selecting the Return Now button at the bottom of the title page. Returning an item early will not give you additional borrows.
  • Movies can be streamed on a computer, Android, Apple, Roku, Amazon Fire, or Chromecast device.
  • You can find the app in your app store.

DAILY LIMIT ERROR MESSAGE

Hoopla is a very popular digital platform at HPL, and due to its popularity, the funds set aside for Hoopla checkouts are spent quickly each day.

Hoopla works differently than other digital library platforms. To allow users access to the entire Hoopla catalog without wait times, the library is charged each time an item is checked out.

Hoopla divides our monthly budget to a daily monetary limit, around $125. Each item borrowed costs an amount, on average $3. When the daily limit is reached, Hoopla doesn't allow any more checkouts for the day. This is why you'll sometimes receive an error message saying that the daily lending limit has been reached.

What should you do when you receive this message? Try again after midnight or as early in the morning as you can. The daily limit resets every day at midnight. Also keep in mind that the first few days of the month are the busiest Hoopla days when everyone's monthly borrow limits reset.
