What is the Winter Reading Program?
The Winter Reading Program is a reading challenge offered at the library over Christmas break and into the new year. It is a fun incentive that offers chances to win awesome prizes to keep everyone reading through the holidays.
This year's Winter Reading Program is a 4 week-4 day challenge. Each age group will have a weekly goal with one ticket earned for each week. Complete the entire challenge to be entered into a grand prize drawing!
How does it work?
The challenge begins December 15th and ends January 15th, and is divided into four age groups:
-
Infants & Toddlers: 4 and younger
-
Kids & Tweens: 5-12
-
Teens: 13-17
-
Adults: 18 and older
There are 4 weeks and 4 days in the challenge. Infants & Toddlers will read 7 books a week for a total of 28 books. Kids & Tweens, Teens, and Adults have the goal of reading 70 minutes a week for a total of 280 minutes. For the last four days, read the daily goal for your age group each day to earn another ticket for the grand prize drawing.
Completing the full challenge including the Bonus Goal will give you a total of five tickets towards the grand prize drawing of your choice in your age group. Each group will have at least four prizes to choose from.
How do I enroll?
Early registration opens December 13th at our Snow Much Fun! event in Meeting Room AB from 1pm to 3pm. Join us for a snowflake craft, snacks, and a showing of the movie Smallfoot.
Regular registration opens December 15th. Signing up for Winter Reading is easy and can be done in several ways:
Option 1: Visit the library and stop by the 2nd floor desk! Fill out the registration form on the back of the Winter Reading tracker and a staff member will create an account in Beanstack for you.
Option 2: Register with Beanstack! Log in to Beanstack online or through the Beanstack app. Create your account and add yourself to the Winter Reading challenge. If you already have an account, join the challenge from your home page.
How do I enter my tickets into the grand prize drawings?
You can enter your tickets into the grand prize drawings yourself through Beanstack. Simply select the prize you'd like a chance to win in Beanstack and enter the amount of tickets you'd like to submit. Your tickets can be divided however you like into the prize or prizes you want to enter.
You can also ask a staff member to enter them for you at the 2nd floor Help Desk. They will access your Beanstack account and enter them however you decide. If you can't stop in, call us at (402) 461-2346 and we'll be happy to help.
January 15th is the last day tickets can be entered into the grand prize drawings.
The grand prize winners will be drawn and contacted by January 17th.
What's the community reading goal this year?
We're challenging you to top last year's total by aiming for 70,000 minutes.
Be sure to log all of your reading minutes between December 15th and January 15th. If you're reading books for the Infants & Toddlers group, keep track of all the books you read; an average of 5 minutes per book is used to log the minutes for this group. And if you are using the bookmark tracker, let staff know any additional minutes you read, so we can add them to the total.
