Planned outage slated for tree trimming on Hastings and Lincoln aves

Residences on Hastings and Lincoln avenues between Seventh and 10th streets will be without electricity Thursday morning, Aug. 7, 2025 to facilitate the trimming of trees close to high-voltage lines.

The planned outage is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. and last until noon.

The tree trimming will be conducted by the Green Tree Co. of Red Oak, Iowa, which continues trimming trees in a large area of north Hastings. The tree-trimming area stretches from Marian Road to Elm Avenue, and from Seventh Street to North Shore Drive.

Trees contacting high voltage electric lines and branches tearing down customer’s service wires during storms are some of the most common causes for power outages.

Areas where the trees have been trimmed away from lines have fewer outages than areas that are not.

The planned outage is needed because of the proximity of the tree limbs to the lines.

The trees to be addressed Thursday morning are in the backyards of homes on the east side of Lincoln Avenue and west side of Hastings Avenue.

Affected residents were notified by Hastings utility department electric distribution crews of the planned outage.
