Street Department
Maintenance
The Street Department is responsible for maintaining the alleys, gravel roads, storm water draining systems, bridges, culverts, public right of way, streets traffic control for emergencies and events and sweeping streets on more than 520 lane miles of streets in the City of Hastings.
The crews work year long on Concrete and Asphalt Repair, which are essential to help keep up with an aging infrastructure. We receive repair requests and use our pavement management program to decide which roads need maintenance the most. Maintenance is not repaving an entire road; it’s fixing the bad spots and moving on to the next request. Potholes, asphalt patching, concrete panels, concrete curbs, storm sewer drains and boxes, crack sealing are all different activities you will see our crews doing as weather permits.
It takes 2 street sweepers to maintain all of
Hastings streets throughout the year weather permitting. Residents should see a sweeper clean their street ones a month as it takes this long with good weather to make a complete cycle of town.
You will also see crews mowing 280 acre's of Street Right-of-Way.
