Traffic Control

The Street Department is responsible for traffic control, pavement marking, signage, and providing traffic control for emergency services and City Council-approved events.

PAVEMENT MARKING

The Street Department Paint Crew includes two full time updating pavement markings during summer months.  Center lines, crosswalks, city parking lots and curbs are repainted each year.  Up to 1,100 gallons of paint may be applied during the painting season.

SIGN Maintenance & management

The city's sign crew maintains over 8,000 signs throughout the city of Hastings, averaging over 900 repaired, replaced and installed every year. Our sign shop can make nearly any sign needed with our sign software and vinyl plotter.

Sign management software has been used by the city's sign crew since 1998. A number on the back of each sign corresponds with a record of that sign which includes the maintenance history, install date, and an image of the sign and GPS coordinates.
