First four parks restrooms to open

Restrooms at several Hastings parks are scheduled to open this weekend in conjunction with ballgames.

With a more favorable weather outlook, it is the Hastings Parks and Recreation Department’s plan to initially open restrooms on Saturday at Oswego Park at West Sixth Street and Westlawn Avenue; the Rec Fields at 16th Street and Saunders Avenue; Carter Park at Chicago Avenue and E Street; and Crosier Park at 13th Street and Pine Avenue.

Parks restrooms do not have heat or insulation, so the opening is dictated by low nighttime temperatures.

The Parks and Recreation Department will not be able to turn on the water until Thursday because of low temperatures forecasted Wednesday night.

It will take a day to see if there are any leaks so those would be fixed Friday followed up by the cleaning of the restrooms from sitting idle over the winter. Parks and Rec staff believe they could tackle these first four in that short amount of time.

Opening of the remaining park restrooms will follow next week as maintenance staff time allows.
