Library to kick off Summer Reading with block party

Hastings Public Library kicks off the 2023 Summer Reading Program with a Community Block Party. The theme of the 2023 Summer Reading Program is "All Together Now" with a focus on practicing kindness, celebrating community, and promoting inclusivity.

The Community Block Party will be 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 27 at the Hastings Public Library, 314 N. Denver Ave. 

The Community Block Party will host several community organizations, including Start Over Rover, Prairie Loft, the Hastings Police Department, and the Hastings Fire Department. Booths will include activities and demonstrations, including balloon animals, sidewalk decorating with sidewalk chalk, technology demonstrations, and more. Angus McGee's Food Truck will be on site with seating and tables available.

The Hastings Public Library's Seed Library, in partnership with the HMS Garden, will be debuted at the Community Block Party. The Seed Library offers free vegetable, herb, fruit, and flower seeds available to anyone interested in gardening.

There will also be a booth available for registration for the Summer Reading Program as well as library card applications and information about upcoming programs through the summer. Registration for the Summer Reading Program can also be done directly on the Beanstack app.
