Parks and Rec Halloween contest winners announced

Winners of two Hastings Parks and Recreation Halloween competitions were announced Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 31. 

Beverly Faughtenbery of 1914 W. Fifth St. won the Hastings Parks and Recreation’s 2023 Halloween Light Fight competition.

As winner, Faughtenbery received $30 in Chamber Bucks, a trophy and picture of her home in the Hastings Tribune.  

Faughtenbery’s home was one of six participating in the competition. Voting for the 2023 Halloween Light Fight Champion took place Oct. 25 to Oct. 30. Judging was based on the following categories: creativity, proportion and scale of lights, Halloween spirit and overall appearance. The winner was determined by a combination of likes, comments and shares on the Facebook post, as well as scoring from the Parks and Recreation staff.

The Bridge won the Hastings Parks and Recreation’s 2023 Scarecrow competition in which businesses, non-profits and other organizations decorated scarecrows that were on display at Libs Park.

Voting occurred Oct. 23 through Oct. 30. A like was worth one point, comment was two points and share was three points.

The Bridge’s scarecrow was one of 17 in the competition.  

As winner, The Bridge received a buy one, get one movie ticket, $50 in Chamber Bucks, free one-topping Domino’s pizza.
