Temporary traffic control changes to be made at 2nd and Burlington

As the Nebraska Department of Transportation updates traffic signals on Burlington Avenue, work zone traffic control is being revised for the safety of motorists while signals are out-of-service during the update process.

Work also includes updating traffic signals at Second, Third, Ninth, 14th and 16th Streets as well as North Shore Drive.

The traffic signals at Second Street and Burlington Avenue were taken out of service on Monday, Nov. 27.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation engineer will set up timing of the traffic signal for normal Green-Yellow-Red signal operation on Thursday. The intersections won’t all be coordinated with each other until later.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation has approved the following traffic control changes suggested by Hastings city staff, beginning Wednesday morning, while the traffic signals are out-of-service:

Southbound Burlington Avenue Traffic approaching Second Street

No restrictions, including allowing left turns. Traffic is not required to stop at Second Street as the signals are out-of-service and bagged.

Northbound Burlington Avenue Traffic approaching Second Street

No left turns will allowed. The left turn lane will be closed with barrels or cones and a NO LEFT turn sign.

Eastbound Second Street traffic approaching Burlington Avenue

Only right turns will be allowed. The northern most lanes will be closed with barrels or cones. Motorists will be looking at a Type III barricade with a ONE WAY arrow pointing to the right.

No left turns will be allowed.

No cross movement will allowed.

The updating of traffic signals is anticipated to be three or four days per location.

Traffic flow at the intersection will be monitored Wednesday. Adjustments will be made as needed. Similar traffic flow changes will be used as the work proceeds up Burlington Avenue.
