Five park restrooms now open, rest to open soon

Hastings Parks and Recreation reopened several restrooms on a tentative basis for the summer season on Thursday, March 21.

Restrooms in Heartwell, Crosier, Lake Hastings, Lincoln Park, and Brickyard parks were reopened. Those restrooms have heaters that were installed over the winter.

Crosier Park had a portable toilet on hand the last few weeks to facilitate the amount of use that playground has seen during the recent warm weather.

The newer restrooms have timers on exterior doors and automatically lock at night.

The restrooms will remain open as weather allows.

The timeline for when the rest of the park restrooms reopen is weather contingent.

If Hastings continues to have nice weather, other park restrooms could reopen as soon as early April.

The other parks restrooms do not have heaters, so there is a risk of them freezing if temperatures drop.

Opening the initial park restrooms on March 21 is about two weeks earlier than when the first few restrooms opened for the season in 2023.

Having the heaters in place allows Hastings Parks and Recreation to take a more proactive approach to reopening restrooms as early as possible because they are used a lot by baseball teams, people walking, families at playgrounds, and fishermen in early spring so Hastings Parks and Rec will open them as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.
