Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a firefighter, paramedic, or EMT? Hastings Fire & Rescue's Ride-Along & Job Shadow Program provides community members, students, and prospective firefighters with a unique opportunity to experience the fire service from the front lines.
Participants spend time alongside our firefighters and paramedics, observing the daily operations of a modern fire department and gaining valuable insight into the profession. Whether you're exploring a future career in emergency services, completing a school job-shadow requirement, or simply interested in learning more about your local fire department, the program offers an engaging and educational experience.
What You Can Expect
During your ride-along or job-shadow experience, you may have the opportunity to observe:
- Emergency medical responses
- Fire and rescue operations
- Training exercises and drills
- Apparatus and equipment inspections
- Station duties and daily operations
- Public education and community outreach activities
- Fire prevention and community risk reduction program
No two shifts are alike, and every experience provides a unique look at the dedication, teamwork, and professionalism required to serve our community.
Who Can Participate?
The Ride-Along & Job Shadow Program is open to individuals interested in learning more about the fire and emergency medical services profession. Participants must meet department eligibility requirements and complete all required paperwork prior to participating.
