Fire Suppression
Hastings Fire & Rescue is staffed by 30 full-time firefighters, all trained to at least the Firefighter II level.

When a confirmed building fire occurs within the city limits, all on-duty personnel respond. A standard structure fire response includes:

• Two quints
• Two ambulances
• One chief officer

Because working fires require significant personnel, resources, and coordination, all confirmed working fires result in an automatic 1-11 or first-alarm response. This recalls off-duty Hastings Fire & Rescue personnel and brings in a mutual-aid engine and additional personnel.

If an incident grows beyond the capabilities of the initial response, additional alarms may be requested. This brings additional fire departments and resources from throughout Adams County and the surrounding area.
