Fireworks Safety

Hastings Fire & Rescue would like to encourage you to celebrate Independence Day safely! Please consider the following when planning any celebration that includes the use of fireworks:

OBEY ALL LOCAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS.
- The sale of fireworks can begin on June 28 within Hastings city limits for the celebration of the Independence Day holiday.
- Permissible fireworks may be sold and ignited from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. June 28 – July 2, and from 10 a.m. to midnight July 3-4.
- Fireworks may not be thrown from or into any motor vehicle.
- Sky lanterns or any other free-floating device which includes a flame or heating device used as a lifting mechanism are prohibited.
- Fireworks may not be used in any park or other property owned by the City of Hastings without a special permit issued by Hastings Fire and Rescue.

HAVE A RESPONSIBLE ADULT SUPERVISE ALL FIREWORK ACTIVITIES.

ALCOHOL AND FIREWORKS DON'T MIX.

WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN SHOOTING FIREWORKS.

LIGHT FIREWORKS OUTSIDE IN A SAFE AREA.

NEVER TRY TO RELIGHT A "DUD". WAIT 20 MINUTES AND THEN SOAK IN A BUCKET OF WATER.

HAVE WATER OR A FIRE EXTINGUISHER PRESENT IN CASE OF FIRE.

DISPOSE OF SPENT FIREWORKS BY SOAKING THEM OVERNIGHT IN A BUCKET OF WATER. THROW THE FIREWORKS IN YOUR GARBAGE CAN AND POUR THE WATER DOWN YOUR TOILET.
