Every service we provide is built around that purpose. From emergency response and advanced medical care to technical rescue and community risk reduction, our personnel work every day to be always prepared and always accountable to the people we serve.
Serving more than 25,000 residents across 13.67 square miles, Hastings is supported by a professional emergency response system operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
From Station 1 and Station 2, our firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs are prepared to respond to the full range of emergencies our community may face.
We train for the difficult calls. We prepare for the unexpected. And when the call comes, we do our job to the best of our ability.
Emergency Response Services
Fire Suppression
Our firefighters are trained and equipped to respond to residential, commercial, industrial, and wildland fires. Through preparation, teamwork, and disciplined operations, crews work to control fires, protect occupants, limit property damage, and safeguard the community.
Search & Rescue
When people are trapped, missing, or in danger, we are prepared to locate and rescue them from hazardous environments. Our approach is grounded in training, teamwork, and a commitment to protecting life.
Hazardous Materials Response
Hazardous materials incidents require specialized knowledge, careful planning, and disciplined operations. Our trained personnel respond to incidents involving chemicals, fuel, spills, and other dangerous substances while working to protect people, property, and the environment.
High-, Low-Angle & Rope Rescue
Our specialized rescue personnel are trained to operate in difficult and dangerous environments, including elevated, steep, and below-grade locations. Through technical training and specialized equipment, we work to reach people who cannot be safely accessed through conventional rescue methods.
Confined Space & Trench Rescue
Confined spaces, trenches, and excavation sites present complex hazards that require specialized training and equipment. Our personnel are prepared to respond with a deliberate, coordinated approach designed to protect both victims and rescuers.
Vehicle Extrication
When people are trapped following a vehicle crash, our firefighters use specialized tools, training, and stabilization techniques to safely access and extricate occupants. We work closely with EMS and other emergency responders to provide coordinated care from the scene through transport.
Water & Ice Rescue
Our specially trained personnel respond to emergencies involving hazardous water and ice environments. These incidents require specialized equipment, technical skills, and disciplined operations to safely reach and rescue those in danger.
Emergency Medical Services
Hastings Fire & Rescue provides Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) emergency medical services.
Our EMTs and paramedics provide rapid assessment, treatment, stabilization, and transport for patients experiencing illness and injury. As an essential part of the region's emergency response system, our EMS personnel work closely with firefighters, law enforcement, hospitals, and neighboring agencies to provide coordinated care when people need it most.

Community Risk Reduction
Our mission is not limited to responding when something goes wrong.
Hastings Fire & Rescue works to reduce risk before emergencies happen through fire prevention, safety planning, public education, inspections, and community partnerships.
By working with residents, businesses, schools, organizations, and community partners, we help identify hazards, improve preparedness, and promote safer homes, workplaces, and public spaces.
